ByWater Solutions Announces October 2024 Community Giveback Winner

Each month, ByWater Solutions selects one library to be awarded $500. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals.

We are excited to announce our October 2024 winner of the ByWater Community Giveback, the QT Library library in Boston, Massachusetts!

The funds will be used to support the expansion and diversification of the Library's collection.

Emily Talley, Executive Director at the QT Library, commented:

One of our main goals as a library is, of course, to build an extensive and wonderful collection of books for our patrons to browse and borrow. We are especially interested in purchasing books that help our collection to better reflect the enormous diversity of the queer and trans community in Boston. We have a dedicated Collections Team that has already collected 1,650 books, made up primarily of donations from community members, partner organizations, and authors, although we have recently received grant funding for direct purchases. Our goal is to grow our collection to 3,000 materials by the time we open our physical space. We would use the funds provided by this grant in service of this goal to expand and diversify our collection."

About the QT Library

The QT Library is a brick-and-mortar queer and trans lending library and substance-free community space coming to Boston in 2024. We envision a world in which every queer and trans person in the QT Library community feels connected to our history, nurtured in our present, and propelled into our brilliant future. The QT Library will create a unique, stable community space with daytime hours and no focus on alcohol. It will function just like a public library branch – a free-to-access all-ages hub of materials, resources, and programming – that is designed by and for the queer and trans community of Boston. With our collective of over 100 volunteer library builders, we are passionate about creating a new space in Boston for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies to gather, organize, rest, and grow.

About the ByWater Community Giveback

We will select one library a month to donate $500 to their Non-profit 501c3 organization such as Friends of the Library, Library Foundation, or other funding entity. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals. We LOVE libraries. Our team is made up of librarians and library fanatics. We're always looking for ways to give back and create opportunities where we can to support libraries. This is a small token of thanks for all the hard work libraries do in their communities every day.
