ByWater Solutions Announces July 2022 Community Giveback Winner

Each month, ByWater Solutions selects one library to be awarded $500. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals.

We are excited to announce our July 2022 winner of the ByWater Community Giveback, the Del Norte County Library District in California.

The funds will be used to expand the library's DVD collection! Phyllis Goodeill, Library Director, commented:

Del Norte County Library District is composed of the Main Branch and the Smith River Branch. We are located on the coast of very northern California 20 miles from the Oregon border. We are a small community of 6,667 residents. We are a poor community composed of many underrepresented groups.

We are the only facility in the area that has DVD's available to rent. Our DVD collection is small and not very current because we have no budget for purchasing DVDs."

About Del Norte County Library District

The Del Norte County Library District is composed of the Main Library, a branch library in Smith River, and the library literacy program, Del Norte Reads. The main branch library was established as the Ladies Library by volunteers in 1906. The library moved to its current location in February 1983. The Smith River branch opened in April 2002. The DNCL provides free services to all residents living within the boundaries of Del Norte County with services available to all others for an annual fee.

The library system holds over 82,000 materials – books, magazines, DVDs, compact discs, audio books, and more. The current building was dedicated in 1983 and was remodeled in 2020. In addition, thousands of people entered the library to utilize print and electronic resources, access the Internet through the Library’s state-of-the-art Wi-Fi service, view a library exhibit, or attend one of the library’s many events.

The friendly staff is eager to serve you. Welcome to the Del Norte County Library!

About the ByWater Community Giveback

We will select one library a month to donate $500 to their Non-profit 501c3 organization such as Friends of the Library, Library Foundation, or other funding entity. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals. We LOVE libraries. Our team is made up of librarians and library fanatics. We're always looking for ways to give back and create opportunities where we can to support libraries. This is a small token of thanks for all the hard work libraries do in their communities every day.
