ByWater Solutions Announces April 2022 Community Giveback Winner

Each month, ByWater Solutions selects one library to be awarded $500. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals.

We are excited to announce our April 2022 winner of the ByWater Community Giveback, the Chanute Public Library in Chanute, Kansas.

The Chanute Public Library is a rural library in southeast Kansas serving a city of approximately 9500 people and the surrounding community. We strive to provide excellent resources, programs and services for our patrons. If awarded this grant we would use the funds to support a new family program we started this year. The funds would be used to purchase books and incentives, and to provide support for our end of the year celebration.

Our program is called LitWits. We ask families to sign up. We currently have 55 families. We give each family a book we have chosen for the month. They are to read the book aloud as a family. They get to keep the book to build their home library. Each family answers a short questionnaire on each book. At the end of the quarter if the family has returned all three questionnaires they receive a small prize. If they complete three of the four quarters they will be invited to an end of the year celebration. The goal of the program is to help build listening, vocabulary and comprehension skills by reading aloud and to build home libraries. The ultimate goal is to get quality books into the hands of kids.

The impact generated by these funds can help build family bonds and create a community that loves to read. The outcomes include increased listening, vocabulary and comprehension skills and building quality home libraries.

We will select one library a month to donate $500 to their Non-profit 501c3 organization such as Friends of the Library, Library Foundation, or other funding entity. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals. We LOVE libraries. Our team is made up of librarians and library fanatics. We're always looking for ways to give back and create opportunities where we can to support libraries.
