ByWater Solutions Announces January 2022 Community Giveback Winner

Each month, ByWater Solutions selects one library to be awarded $500. These funds are meant to support libraries and their communities and fill gaps in funding to further library goals.

We are excited to announce our January 2022 winner of the ByWater Community Giveback, Randolph-Decker Public Library in Clyde, Kansas.

Randolph-Decker is a small library in Clyde, Kansas, which has a population of 912. The library serves more than 440 patrons and engages in several yearly programs for children including Storytime every Friday during the school year and a well-attended summer reading program.

Their goal for the Community Giveback project is to purchase books for their children's section that will focus on improving cultural knowledge and awareness of diversity through children's literature. The books will be shared with the children during summer programming and Storytime which is held during the fall and winter. Their library's children collection falls short of representing diverse authors and viewpoints that their young children are not exposed to due to living in a small, rural community. Through literature, we can help their children and their families recognize that people are both alike and different. The books they add to their children's collection will help them value and embrace the uniqueness of each person and the people we meet.

Using books about inclusion and diversity during their children's programming will help them build young individuals who will treat others fairly and respectfully. This grant will enable them to help their young children value and accept others, no matter their differences.

ByWater Solutions is happy to contribute to such a great initiative to expand and diversify their collection.

About Randolph-Decker Public Library

Randolph-Decker Public Library is located in Clyde, Kansas at 107 S. Green Street. A member of the Central Kansas Library System (CKLS), it is part of a statewide consortium of libraries linked together with other Kansas Library Systems to create a statewide wealth of lending libraries.
