Aspen Discovery Development Updates
At ByWater Solutions, we have seen many new feature requests come through over the years, hundreds of which have been implemented and rolled out via the Aspen releases. As the community continues to grow we see more and more great ideas pour in. We want to foster that spirit of participation by not only continuing to embrace the process already in place but also offering a way for libraries to fast-track features they would like to see implemented. We will be doing this by offering the ability to contribute funding for custom developments.
This can be done on a single library instance, or by collaborating with several libraries to sponsor a feature using crowd-funding. Unlike proprietary systems, new features in Aspen only need to be funded once to cover the developer time needed to create the new functionality. Once that funding is complete the feature will be developed and rolled out to the entire community at no additional cost. We are in the process of setting up a comprehensive list of features on our crowdfunding site which can be accessed here. This is a work in progress so please bear with us as we work to get this site updated and organized.

When you submit a ticket with a development request that is not a bug (something that should work but does not) our team will ask if you would like for us to quote that feature and/or list it on the crowdfunding site. If that is not of interest to your library we will put the feature onto the community request repository where we will work with the other vendors in the community to review and discuss the suggested feature.
This new approach to development will ensure the continued growth and stability of the Aspen community, as well as attract new developers to the project. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
