Aspen Discovery Community Grows with a New Vendor Announcing Support
ByWater Solutions, America’s forefront provider of Open Source library technology support, announced today that the Aspen Discovery Community is growing. Equinox Open Library Initiative will now provide support for Aspen Discovery.
Mark Noble, Aspen Discovery Architect, recently commented on the growth.
Over the past 13 years, it has been my pleasure to see the Aspen Discovery community grow as new libraries have implemented Aspen. Various individuals, libraries, and support organizations have worked on the code, processes, and ideas that form what is now Aspen Discovery. Over the past year, that community has grown to include active contributions from support organizations in Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
Over the past several months, our team at ByWater Solutions has enjoyed working with Equinox as we implemented the integration of Aspen Discovery with the Evergreen Open Source ILS. The team at Equinox has been instrumental in helping us to better understand the Evergreen architecture and APIs so that we were able to effectively develop the necessary connections to Aspen Discovery.
Freedom from vendor lock-in is one of the core values of open-source software. This freedom is essential to ensure that products continue to advance in innovative new ways to meet the needs of libraries and their patrons.
We’re looking forward to Equinox’s first code contribution and working with them as they start contributing to the Aspen Discovery community.
About Aspen Discovery
Aspen is a full-featured Discovery System that integrates with e-content and other 3rd party providers, giving your patrons comprehensive access to all of your materials in one place. Aspen combines your library catalog with e-content, digital archives, and enrichment from all major third-party providers improves relevancy and ease of use, provides native reading recommendations, displays all formats of titles within one result (FRBR) and much more. Aspen was created to give users an improved experience over other Discovery systems with less of an impact on library budgets.
Aspen LiDA (Library Discovery app) is the companion to Aspen Discovery. The app expands the robust offerings currently available with Aspen Discovery; including intuitive searching, visually engaging browsing, patron account management, and suggested searches to bring an enhanced library experience to your patrons.
