Aspen Discovery 23.08 brings libraries the ability to design their own Custom Facets as well as 50+ additional enhancements and partner requests.

It’s important for library discovery to allow patrons to narrow their search results using any important data point that the library has cataloged. Although Aspen already has 45 different facets for libraries to choose from, some collections just require something unique. Now libraries can define their own facets based off of whatever MARC fields they like, ensuring that no matter where the data is stored in the record, patrons will be able to use it to find what they need in Aspen."

As collections expand to include materials beyond books and movies, libraries are starting to add new kinds of data to MARC records. Whether specific age groups for a Library of Things collection or a special rating system that only your local schools use, you can now build a facet using that data with Custom Facets in Aspen! The new Custom Facets can process one or more MARC fields with the ability to include and exclude specific values. They also integrate with Aspen’s Translation Maps so that you can transform the data in your records to more patron-friendly words if needed.

In addition to Custom Facets, the 23.08 release includes the ability to add convenience fees and terms of service to ecommerce integrations, an improved workflow for event registration, and barcode scanning for search and login for the LiDA app. These features are among the dozens of enhancements that come with this release, so be sure to check out the complete release notes to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
