Koha Question of the Week: Can I Extend Hold Expiration Dates due to Unexpected Closure?

Each Friday, we will bring you a new Koha Question of the Week. We will select real questions that we receive and share the answers with you!

Question: Can I Extend Hold Expiration Dates due to Unexpected Closure?

Answer: It happens - librarians can prepare for upcoming closures they know about by adding those closures to their calendar so that due dates can reflect the closures and ExpireReservesOnHolidays can work its magic so that holds won't expire while the library is closed.

However, not every closure can be planned for - plumbing leaks and natural disasters can cause last-minute closures that leave items due when patrons literally cannot return them and holds that would expire on the shelf. For extending due dates in batch, librarians can use the Batch extend due date tool to add days and/or backdate liberally when they're open again. Holds do not have a similarly staff-client-accessible way to extend hold pickup dates, but we can help with that - just put in a ticket and let us know what date range of hold expiration dates should be adjusted and what the new date should be.
