Librarian of the Month

June 2019 Librarian of the Month

Each month, ByWater Solutions recognizes a librarian for their hard work and positive impact on the community. Barbara Johnson from the Bedford Public Library in Texas is the June 2019 Librarian of the Month. She was nominated by Maria Redburn, Director of the Bedford Public Library.

Maria submitted the following nomination:

Barbara epitomizes the Continuous Improvement Process. She is always looking for ways to reduce clicks while improving the user experience. Barbara has taken Koha to the next level at our library. Using jQuery and CSS, either with ByWater’s assistance or through independent learning, she has provided our patrons with an OPAC that is attractive and easy to use. She has maximized staff efficiency by streamlining navigation and work procedures. She continues to look for ways to improve how Koha is used in our library. We are lucky to have such a knowledgeable, talented and innovative individual at Bedford. Barbara was instrumental in the design of the state-of-the-art, staff-efficient Bedford Public Library which was a 2012 Finalist for Library of the Year as well as winner of the Wayne Williams Project of Year for the Texas Library Association.

Barbara has always been a great advocate for open source, speaks at Koha events and shares her knowledge with the community! Thank you Barbara!!
