ByWater Solutions’ Nicole C. Engard to Present at the Computers in Libraries 2010 Conference in Arlington VA.
ByWater Solutions, an open source community supporter and official Koha support company, is proud to announce that Nicole C. Engard will be presenting at this year’s Computers in Libraries Conference in Arlington Virginia.
Nicole will be part of two Workshops; Implementing Library Mashups, on Sunday 4/11 from 9am to 12pm, and New and Open Source Tools, on Wednesday, 4/14 from 10:30 to 11:30am.
In the Implementing Library Mashups workshop, attendees will learn what mashups are, how they can be used, and see examples from libraries around the world. Attendees will learn about tools they can use to mash up library data with content from the web to reach more patrons. By the end of the half-day workshop attendees will have hands on experience creating mashups for their libraries.
Later in the week, at the New and Open Source Tools workshop Nicole will present with Darlene Fichter listing free, open source and inexpensive tools that will save web content providers time, pain, or both. Many of the tools can be used by anyone regardless of their tech know-how. Nicole will emphasize open source tools, whose source code are made available for use or modification, and provides links to a toolbox full of freely available open source products to use in libraries.
Nicole will also be signing copies of her book, “Library Mashups: Exploring new ways to deliver library data” during the Opening Reception of the conference on April 12th from 5:00 to 5:45pm at the Information Today Booth (#822).
Nicole has been a pillar of the Koha community since 2008 and acts as documentation manager for the project. In 2009 Nicole signed on with ByWater Solutions as Director of Open Source Education, and is well known outside of the Koha community as a speaker, teacher and writer. She has also been recognized as one of Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers for 2007.
