Adding Page Breaks to Printable Notices in Koha

Koha generates and emails a file of printable overdue notices for those who don’t have email addresses. The problem is that this text file doesn’t have any page breaks so it can be a bit messy when trying to print. This tutorial video will walk you through using Find & Replace in Microsoft Word to add in page breaks.

For those who can’t load videos at their library, here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Open the attachment.txt file that was emailed to you from Koha
  2. Find a string that appears at the beginning of every notice (and no where else) such as ‘Dear’
  3. Use the Replace tool in Word to find that string and replace it with ^mSTRING
    • If you searched for ‘Dear’ for example you would want to replace it with ‘^mDear’ (without quotes)

This will add in page breaks at the top of each notice to make them easier to print. I did research how to do this is OpenOffice or LibreOffice, but found that there was no easy way to do it. If you have a tip you’d like to share for those tools please do so in the comments.

If you have an idea for a tutorial video I should do or that you have done yourself (or found on the web) that we should include in this series, just drop me a line and I’ll add it.
