Koha Question of the Week: Does Renewing Un-Lose a Lost Item?

Each Friday, we will bring you a new Koha Question of the Week. We will select real questions that we receive and share the answers with you!

Question: Does Renewing Un-Lose a Lost Item?

Answer: Renewing an item after it has been marked as Long Overdue (Lost) and billed to the patron account will not roll back the lost status or trigger any refund behavior set in circulation rules. Simply put, the renewal process doesn't interact with lost item settings. Only manually changing the lost status on the item or returning the item will mark that item found.

Librarians can mark the item as found from the item details page and handle any fines/replacement fees as they see fit, or they can return the item to clear the status and trigger any refund or fine resolution set in the Default lost item fee refund on return policy, then re-check the item out to the user to give the person one more checkout to find the item.
