Koha Question of the Week: What Do I Need to Know About Report Links in the Upgrade?

Each Friday, we will bring you a new Koha Question of the Week. We will select real questions that we receive and share the answers with you!

Question: What Do I Need to Know About Report Links in the Next Upgrade?

Answer: As Koha grows and changes with each upgrade, some of these changes impact reports, oftentimes adding a new data table or renaming a field based on some new functionality. In the case of the 24.05 upgrade coming to most of our partners at the end of this month, some infrastructure changes to Koha will affect the URL generated when librarians run reports.

Right now for libraries still on 23.05 or 23.11, the link to share and run a report looks like this at the end of the staff client URL:

/cgi-bin/koha/reports/guided_reports.pl?reports=72&phase=Run%20this%20report

In 24.05, that link will look like this:

/cgi-bin/koha/reports/guided_reports.pl?id=72&op=run

What does this mean for libraries?

Well, for librarians who simply run their reports from within the reports module, this doesn't change anything.

Librarians who may have particular report links saved as bookmarks in their browsers will need to update those links, however. Many library consortia also place links to frequent reports in their staff client from various content blocks like IntranetmainUserblock, IntranetCirculationHomeHTML, and IntranetReportsHomeHTML, as well as other html customizations or news stories. Unfortunately, all run report links based in any of these areas will also need to be updated upon upgrade to 24.05 as the links will no longer work and will simply take users back to the reports main page.
