Koha Community GiftED: Bibliographic Frameworks
Presenter: Sarah B. Cornell, Supervisor of Technical Services, Portsmouth Public Library
Followup
An enhancement request that was discussed during the presentation:
Bug 37738- Framework update accessibility for existing installations
There was a question brought up in the webinar about what happens to MARC fields when they are removed from the framework:
System Preference: ApplyFrameworkDefaults
When the framework doesn’t define a field or subfield and the bib that contains that field or subfield in the basic editor, Koha will only display the fields and subfields that are valid. And if it is clicked save, Koha will only save the fields and subfields that are valid. If the same record is opened in the advanced editor, it will display all fields and will save all fields.
The same behavior occurs when the field is defined but is marked as “ignore” in the “Managed in tab” drop-down. It is preserved by the advanced editor but not the basic editor. So the warning on the subfield page of the framework is accurate, but only in the basic editor.
So yes, Koha really will delete ignored, or simply undefined, fields. But it appears to only happen if you’re using the basic editor.
