Koha 23.05: Batch Tools Enhancements
23.05 brings improvements to batch tool functions.
Bug 31611 is an enhancement that more clearly highlights why an item or record cannot be batch modified or deleted.
Because this record has checked-out items on it, it cannot be deleted, more clearly shown with a red X instead of a greyed-out box, with mouseover text explaining the reason.
Bug 32019 brings the long-awaited ability to end checkouts in bulk via batch item modification. In the existing MarkLostItemsAsReturned system preference, libraries can now select ‘from the batch item modification tool.’ This ends a circulation without triggering return behaviors like refunds or marking lost items as found.
Some of our partners have been using our End Checkout plugin for this functionality, but this new option in the existing system preference brings the ability to end a checkout into batch modification within Koha. It appears beneath the item modification form once a batch of items has been selected for batch modification.
Bug 32164 adds a convenient link to Marc modification templates from the batch record modification page for libraries that don’t already have any templates set up. Many libraries that have been on Koha for any amount of time will not ever see this new function, but for new libraries, it creates a clear link between the batch modification tool and what is required to use it, with a convenient link to add a modification template.
And finally, Bug 32970 allows libraries to export results of batch modifications from background jobs.
Until now, background jobs can show what changes were made and how many items or records were changed, but now that data can also be exported in a variety of formats, including Excel and csv, as well as options to copy the contents or prompt a print dialogue box. This enhancement also introduces a search box of the detailed view table.
