Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers awards offer a compelling snapshot of what’s up and coming in the library world and how it has changed.

This year’s Advocates, Community Builders, Change Agents, Innovators, and Educators are teaching future teachers, raising up immigrant communities, showing college students their library’s benefits, standing up to anti-library legislation, helping their communities recover from climate-impact disasters, providing access for unhoused and incarcerated populations, and using comics to teach civic literacy—to name just a few.

Movers & Shakers 2025—Advocates

• Leah Gregory | School Library Membership Coordinator, Illinois Heartland Library System
  • Goal: To pass legislation requiring certified school librarians in every district. “My biggest strength is teaming up with like-minded people to achieve big goals,” says Gregory. Her most recent (and fun) collaboration is a new podcast—You Can’t Shelve This—with RAILS Data Analyst Janette Derucki, aimed at amplifying the voices and stories of school librarians.
• Jen Park | Government Relations Specialist, Ramapo Catskill Library System, Middletown, NY
  • Goal: The combination of libraries and government is logical to Park. “When I’m in these trainings, I say, ‘You know which groups are really for everyone, every single person, and everyone has access to them? The government and libraries.’”
