We have been very pleased with our new Koha ILS, and with the support we have gotten from ByWater. They were extremely helpful with our migration and customization, and worked with us every step of the way. And since we have gone live with Koha, the responsiveness of the ByWater support team has been just great. And of course, the Koha ILS is web-based, so it is platform independent, and it is extremely feature rich and customizable, offering many features that some well known proprietary products don’t even have. We are very happy that we made the move from our old proprietary ILS to Koha, and that we went with ByWater Solutions for our technical support.
When I found ByWater and talked to various people there, I felt I was in good hands. I decided to go with Koha and the support team at ByWater because together, we could address the unique needs of my special library. My experience with the team, notably Danielle and Nicole, has been a lot of fun! They managed to keep their sense of humor even when they actually met my old database and the issues surrounding that twisted situation. It continues to be a pleasure to work with the team and with Koha. I feel totally supported. ByWater has made the transition easy for me, although I am sure they have been challenged by my situation.
We are delighted with our new Open Source Koha ILS and ByWater’s support. Our users have quickly adapted and we have received only positive feedback so far. In particular, the faceted searching, the option to browse the shelves virtually, and the direct links to Google and WorldCat are met with enthusiasm. On the staff side, we deeply appreciate the web-based interface and flexibility of the system. One of our main reasons for selecting Koha and ByWater support is the continuous development of Koha and the option of joining together with the community to implement new features.
We love Koha because it is simple, straight forward, and the students don’t get confused. The previous system we had was complicated and confusing to the students. This is the greatest move we’ve made and kudos to Nicole Engard for training us so well!
Schaff Library at Lancaster Theological Seminary has been a Koha library for just over a year. We expected and welcomed the tremendous improvement over our outdated proprietary ILS. What we did not expect was to become a member of a broad family of Koha users and recipients of fantastic out-of-this-world service and support from ByWater Solutions. There are bumps in every ILS migration, but the team at ByWater was very supportive and responsive throughout the migration process. Once migration was complete, the level of service and support did not change. Because Koha is open source, all of us who use Koha participate in its ongoing development. This has been one of the most exciting parts of becoming a Koha library. Our needs lead to ideas that are funneled into developments, and this is how Koha continues to improve the way libraries manage their resources. It is a beautiful thing and we are so proud to be a part of it.
Working with ByWater was easy during the transition from our previous Koha vendor. ByWater quickly and efficiently converted our data from one format to the other with virtually no down time. They were responsive to our questions and concerns and added more functionality in the process. I would highly recommend them if you considering the change.
When we went to look for a new provider of technical support and server hosting for our Koha System we were impressed with what we heard from others about ByWater Solutions. It was a great testimony that regional library systems in our state had chosen their services. ByWater lives up to their reputation. We submitted our first help request with caution. Our previous provider had either not responded or responded and made us to feel silly for asking such a question. Not only did ByWater staff members fix the issue, but it was sent with supportive help and they EVEN followed up on it with us. This a HUGE improvement over our former carrier. We appreciate the realness, the responsiveness and the respect we receive from ByWater.

The migration to Koha was both challenging and rewarding. It was very helpful to have three of us consulting and collaborating as we built our customizations and learned Koha’s functionality. I particularly appreciate the layering of detail to explore. My circulation staff have a simple, user-friendly interface with which to do their jobs, whereas the library director as ‘superlibrarian’ has access to the whole system and all its permutations. I’m looking forward to learning about future upgrades.
As ‘superlibrarian’, I welcome learning what makes the system tick, and having the freedom to experiment before committing to changes. Koha’s flexibility as a system for our new cooperative has generated valuable discussions of policies and procedures along with the philosophy that guides them. Patrons like the improved account interface, and are just starting to grasp the benefits of a shared catalog. From conversations that have already happened, I feel that patron feedback (and enthusiasm) will guide a lot of decisions as our three libraries develop our cooperative relationship.
Our transition to Koha has been a great experience due to the knowledge and skill of the ByWater Solutions staff. Koha has the ease of use and functionality we were looking for in a system, and with ByWater Solutions’ help, we are able to fully take advantage of all the aspects of the system, including course reserves. Our students, faculty, and staff like the ease of use that Koha brings. ByWater Solutions was able to help us tailor the system to better fit our library and collection.
We are all getting used to Koha and feel like any bump we’ve had along the way has been immediately solved by a staff member at ByWater. Our public LOVES the new catalog and all of the options available to them. We feel like it has been a change for the positive and look forward to diving into the reporting very soon. From the initial contact through the training and the conversion weekend, the ByWater staff has been incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. We are just a month into going live and we are so glad we made the change!
I really like having an open source system for our library. ByWater is hosting our library information which means we can feel comfortable about our information being available to our patrons and we won’t have to do backups or upgrading of our computers. I look forward to receiving updates on a regular basis and the employees at ByWater are very warm, helpful and friendly.
When I started as library director at the top of my agenda was to switch to a new ILS, and my absolute first choice was Koha. Being an open-source fan, I felt that supporting an ILS like Koha was an important contribution to the library world as a whole.
